Effect of SDS on the self-assembly behavior of the PEO-PPO-PEO triblock copolymer ([EO.sub.20])([PO.sub.70])([EO.sub.20])

Article Abstract:

Small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) and viscosity measurements are used to study the mixed micellar system comprising the poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide)-based triblock copolymer ([EO.sub.20])([PO.sub.70])([EO.sub.20]) and the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). Copolymers with high PO/EO ratios have showed an increase in the stability of the gel phase, whereas copolymers with low PO/EO ratios have showed a deterioration of the same in the presence of SDS.

Tuning the structure of SDS micelles by substituted anilinium ions

Article Abstract:

The growth behavior of aggregates formed in aqueous solution of the anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) in the presence of the cationic hydrophobic salts o-toluidine hydrochloride (OTHC) and m-toluidine hydrochloride (MTHC) is examined. The propensity for the strong growth of SDS micelles is explained by the high charge neutralization provided by the salts as the aromatic counterions are adsorbed on the surface of the micelles.

Surface patch binding induced intermolecular complexation and phase separation in aqueous solutions of similarly charged gelatin-chitosan molecules

Article Abstract:

Study is presented to investigate the formation of selective surface patch binding induced complex coacervates between polyions, chitosan (cationic polyelectrolyte), and alkali-processed gelatin (polyampholyte). Results indicate the existense of a weakly interconnected and heterogeneous network structure inside the coacervate phase separated by domains of polymer-poor regions.
